Le Carre Hermes > Fall - Winter 2000 / 2001
... and I shall tell you of my dreams of being a bandit. The boldness of stout Roland intoxicates childhood which dreams only of merciless combats. The imagination of modern little boys (not forgetting little girls either) is stirred by the arms and armour of chivalric romances. And stirred even more when the dreamer is galloping on a rocking horse. A charger made of wood, paper-mache, or even fibreglass today, is favoured by mothers, who have fewer bandages to cope with.
H Carre Hermes Paris > Spring - Summer 2000
Tell me about horses
How amazing that modern children still like to straddle a rocking horse, or a horse on wheels, rather than a space scooter. Is it to copy those heroes of cape and sword, whose exploits are still presented on a few persistent screens? Or are they obeying an instinct, which reaches back to the dawning of time, and bears witness to that eternal association between Man and Horse? Between the Horse and Hermes, at any rate, the link is not repudiated.
