Alfred de Dreux's portraits of amazons show us the admiral dresses they wore, falling almost to the ground. Saddle covers, too, were often decorated with the same refined elegance. Here, inspired by the artistry of the celebrated house of Camille, our draughtsman has given free rein to his imagination with these embroidered, jewel-studded treasures of craftsmanship - showing, in a festival of exquisite taste, that a horse-woman was, first and foremost, a woman.
