Winter fires

No, not the tree-toppers' acrid smoke, thickly betraying the rubber tyres used to kindle it; this is the joyful blaze started by Nature, whose marvels are always magnificent. Winter is a dumb tyrant lacking drum and trumpet. Under his reign everything becomes purified, stylised, silent. The arabesques of the skaters are reflected by the fairy-flurries of snowflakes, another Milky Way made of an infinity of crystals, each as vastly beautiful as a star.
