The toucan, a climbing bird characteristic of tropical forests, is particularly present in the Amazon. Here, illustrator Katie Scott, who is passionate about biology and renowned for her botanical and animal plates, presents an imaginary species. The birds wave their beaks proudly - no doubt heralding a song that will make them the kings of the woods! Their decorative plumage, characteristic of the bird-of-paradise and the peacock, underlines their rarity and the exotic inspiration of their designer. These elements combine to form a marvellous tableau tinged with naturalism.
