TREASURES OF THE NILE
First, of course, one must eat and the biggest benefits of this immense river are perhaps those great waves of silt with which it regularly drowns its two banks, fertilising as ever the surrounding land. But, having sown, reaped and consumed, man then gives himself up to his passion for craftsmanship: all these jewels, talismans, earrings and necklaces, assembled about the funerary masks of the Pharaohs Tutankhamun and Psusennes I, bear witness to that other fertility of the Egyptian world.
