H Carre Hermes Paris > Fall - Winter 1998 / 99
Meaning "For the heartiest". This is the insignia on the silver sheath of a hunting dagger worked by the jeweler Froment0-Meurice (19th century, Emile Hermes Collection). This concept of "gaillardise" or country heartiness derives in essence from that pull of nature, which makes us prefer the great outdoors to the peace of our cupboard existence. Under a golden rain of autumn leaves, these knives and hunting bayonets sing of our cynegetic urges.
