In 1662, Louis XIV decided to hold a celebration in the Tuileries gardens to mark the birth of his heir. Hence the great carrousel, having for its theme "the most renowned nations". This scarf was inspired by the engravings of Silvestre and Chauveau, colored by Jacques Bailly, illustrating a text by Charles Perrault that honored this event. Roman page, Indian trumpet player, Persian and Turkish equerries with their bearers and lads: There is even the Duke of Guise dressed as an "American King".
