Laundry Symbols

Dry Cleaning

  • A small circle indicates the item must be dry cleaned.
  • Letters inside the circle indicate to the dry cleaner the chemicals to be used.
      • For example, the P in a Circle indicates Dry Clean Any Solvent Except Trichloroethylene
      • An F indicates Dry Clean Petroleum Only
  • The more bars under the circle indicate the level of precaution to be taken.  A Single Bar is Delicate. A Double Bar is Very Delicate.
  • An X over the circle indicates the item should not be dry cleaned.

        • No dots implies At Any Temp
        • 1 Dot >> Delicates, such as Silk & Wool
        • 2 Dots >> Synthetics

  • A cross over the iron symbol indicates item should not ironed

Washing

  • A Tub with a Hand indicates the item can be hand washed or put in a delicate washing cycle of 40C/104F or lower.
  • Hand washing is better for delicate items like silk or cashmere to help prevent shrinking or snagging.
  • A Tub without a Hand indicates the item can be machine washed.
  • A Number in the Tub indicates the maximum recommended temperature.
  • An X over a Twisted Symbol indicates the item should not be wrung.
