Hermes.com > The Story Behind
During the Belle Epoque (1880-1914), France was prosperous and experienced many social and technological changes. Single and tandem velocipede bicycles were al the rage, and the "Becane" became the preferred means of transportation for Parisians who socialized on the banks of the Marne. Sundays were spent picnicking in front of the rowing races and dancing at the guingguettes. Hugo Grygkar pays tribute to this carefree and light-hearted period, when even the police made us of bicycles and were nicknamed "the swallows" due to the capes they wore. Four boater hats, worn by the athletes of the time, surround the central drawing. This 1974 scxarf is now available in a new version with new colors.
