Published for the opening of the Hermes boutique in Biarritz in 1954.
- The Villa Eugenie was built in 1855 around the former imperial residence of Napoleon III and Eugenie de Montijo. The villa Eugenie kept its name until 1881, when it was transformed into a hotel-casino under the name of Palais Biarritz which, in1893, took the name Hotel du Palais. Biarritz, an elegant seaside town on the Basque coast in southwestern France, is a very selective seaside destination. At the beginning of the 19th century, this resort was very popular with the European courts.
- "... We had made a scarf specially for the Biarritz branch called, of course, Biarritz, the edges of which represented the gates of the Hotel du Palais and the centre of which was occupied by a portrait of Napoleon III and his wife. When the scarves arrived, we realised that a shift of one fifth of a millimetre in the printing of the colours made the unfortunate Empress squint with her right eye." Remarks by Jean R. Guerrand, taken from the book "Souvenirs Cousus Sellier - un demi-siecle avec Hermes".
- Various colours / 90 x 90 cm / 100% silk
