- The order of Malta is a sovereign order founded in 1048 by merchants from the Amalfi coast, Italy. From the 12th to the early 19th century it was a military order. In modern times, it retains its religious mission and helps the underprivileged. Sold for the exclusive benefit of the Maison d'Accueil that the Order of Malta's French Hospitallers are building in Paris.
