Ready for the ride? The car engine is purring by the front steps, and Madame is taking the wheel! The scene takes place in the 1920s, when women's emancipation was in full swing. Hermes contributed to this new-found freedom, designing useful and practical clothing and all the equipment needed by the modern travelling woman: trunk, gloves, scarf, briefcase and blanket, as revealed in these advertisements assembled by Cathy Latham. Elegance and comfort for travelling!
Le Carre Hermes Paris >> Printemps-Ete 1996
A jumbled array of advertising announcements which Hermes, with an eye for publicity, brought out in the twenties for its clientele. to give them every incentive to see automobile travel as a pleasure rather than a ordeal. Scarves, gloves, bags and cases; all these remained essential items in those heroic days; and Hermes reigned over this arsenal, confident of the Zip Fastener, which it dispensed exclusively.
