Historias De Carres > Autumn-Winter 2011
With a headdress of golden eagle and falcon feathers, the warrior has their piercing gaze and shares their speed. Apache White Mountain’s tribe takes its name from the snowcapped summits of eastern Arizona. He poses, surrounded by masks crowned by yucca “tabletas”, symbols of the gods of Gahan, on a background inspired by the body of paintings of the dancers who invoke their kindness. Sun, moon and stars make up the cosmos, hummingbirds and snakes the fertile and saving rains. During these ceremonies, the dancers clasp sticks painted with lightening and mountains that, here, surround the scene just like the drawings punctuated by young leaves of precious corn that grow in bountiful nature.
