Histoires De Carres > Autumn-Winter 2020
A strong theme of the Emile Hermes collection is equestrian art. It is also the subject of an extraordinary treatise on horsemanship entitled Della Cavalleria, written by the German author Georg Englehard von Lohneysen and printed at his home in Bavaria in 1609. Composed of numerous baroque engravings on wood and copper, the book is an encyclopaedia of not just dressage and anatomy, but also tournaments and festivities, giving rise to some remarkable and spectacular illustrations. Here, Virginie Jamin uses a few harness parts as her model, working on lines like an engraver. This emblematic design is offered this season in a new double-sided version, in multicoloured madras on one side and monochrome finesse on the other.
