Della Cavalleria Favolosa

Histoires De Carres > Spring - Summer 2020

Della Cavalleria is one of the most extraordinary treaties in equestrian history. Written by Georg Engelhard von Lohneysen, it was published in Bavaria in the very early 17th century. Conserved in the Emile Hermes collection and illustrated with baroque engravings, it notably presents a series of German sleighs that feature fabulous creatures and richly ornamented horses. Playing with these pairings, the artist takes the extravagance further and assembles teams of horses and chimeric monsters, humorously giving a racquet to one. a yo-yo or a diabolo to another, creating outlandish visual combinations worthy of a game of exquisite corpse. This season, the design is presented in a new double-sided version.

Histoires De Carres > Spring - Summer 2018

Della Cavalleria is one of the most extraordinary treatises in the history of riding. Written by Georg Engelhard von Lohneysen, it was published in Bavaria at the beginning of the seventeenth century. This work, preserved in the Emile Hermes collection, is illustrated by Baroque engravings that depict, among other things, German sleighs drawn by fabulous creatures and richly adorned horses. Playing with parties, the designer pushes the extravagance even further, creating a collage of hybrid creatures with the bodies and heads of horses and mythical beasts. And because in 2018 Hermes celebrates the theme of games, Virginie Jamin has wittingly handed a racket to one, a yoyo to another and a diabolo to yet another - creating bizarre associations worthy of a game of "consequences".
