Hermes.com > The Story Behind

Elias Kafouros commemorates the bicentenary of his country's independence and celebrate the courage of his compatriots. His design unfolds like a flag and each letter of the Greek work for freedom is written in a characteristic landscape of the countries three regions:

Continental Greece, the Peloponnese, and the islands of the Aegean sea.

Mountainside houses, bell towers, ancient colonnades, bridges, and terraces flower at the heart of luxurious nature. A lake is superimposed at the center of the letter "0", taking the shape of a blue eye - a symbol the Greeks see as warding off bad luck. Here, it symbolizes citizens' open gaze regarding their cultural, social and human heritage. Resolutely turned towards the future.

Hermes Histoires de Carres > Autumn - Winter 2021

Elias Kafouros commemorates the bicentenary of his country's independence and celebrates his compatriots' courage. His flag-like design places each letter of the Greek work for liberty in a landscape characteristic of the country's three regions: mainland Greece, the Peloponnese and the Aegean Islands.  Houses perched on mountainsides, bell towers, ancient colonnades, bridges and garden terraces nestle in lush surroundings. In the centre, superimposed over a lake, the letter "0", taking the shape of a blue eye - which, for the Greeks, wards off ill fortune. Here, it symbolizes the way in which contemporary citizens embrace their cultural, social and human heritage, their gaze firmly focused on the future.
