Histoires De Carres > Printemps-Ete 2009
The carre portrays, in a poetic manner, various stirrups from the Emile Hermes Collection. It depicts a silver side-saddle stirrup (South America, 19th Century), a stirrup carvedd out of wood with a silver finish (Peru, 18th Century), a pair of stirrups made of brass (Middle East) and a copper stirrup (France and Spain, end of 18th Century). Such finery was intended to garnish the feet of male and female gentry worldwide whilst out riding. Through their variety, the ingenuity and the inventive beauty of detail, such finery pays tribute to the know-how of craftsmen, having put their talent to the service of noble equestrian art.
