They snort, charge, rear, bolt… Multicoloured stains: a camouflage fabric made up of spirited horses. Then the eye distinguishes the encircled H, the carriage and the groom who faces it… When Emile Hermes decided to personalise the books of his library, he paid the greatest attention when choosing his “ex-libris”. Surely this label, carefiully placed on every work, must express the taste of the owner? Inspired by a drawing by Alfred de Drexel hanging in his office, this motif in time became the emblem of the firm: the “duc”, an elegant carriage for the town; the groom waiting in livery; and the horse, stationary, dreaming of mad careerings…
