this assortment from Hermes museum pays tribute to the lantern makers' art, which overtook and often enhanced that of the carriage makers, from the moment that darkness was there to be driven through. The King of Belgium, the Khedive of Egypt, romantic casanova or emissary of Napoleon: they all travelled by night, thanks to the lamps, whose flames at the gallop kindled as much ardour for motion, in the shadows, as holy fire of craftsmanship.
