Histoires De Carres > Printemps-Ete 2012

At hunt meets or show jumping events, horses and riders wait in "Grande Tenue", in broadcloth covers and monogrammed checked cotton shirts. The house's archives contain an unparalleled set of these emblems designed to mark stables with the monograms of their owners. The oldest date from Napoleon III. The stamped monogram of a viscount with its bold graphic lines here confronts that of a Romanian prince; a lion emerges from a ducal crown is turned towards those of Napoleon III or a maharaja. Lastly, in the centre is the monogram of Emile Hermes, the passionate collector who assembled this record of the house.

Histoires De Carres > Autumn-Winter 2020

At hunting meets and equestrian competitions, horses wait in their grande tenue, or ceremonial dress, of blankets in wool broadcloth and sheets in monogrammed checked cotton. Hermes' archives include a unique collection of these emblems designed to identify teams by their owners' monograms, the oldest of which date from the era of Napoleon III. The stamped monogram of a viscount, with highly graphic lines, sits opposite that of a Tomanian prince, while a lion emerging from a ducal crown faces those of Napoleon III and a maharajah. The centre displays the monogram of Emile Hermes, a passionate collector responsible for the house's collective memory.
