Histoires De Carres > Spring - Summer 2018
Adolphe Jean-Marie Mouron, known as Cassandre, was one of the greatest graphic designers of the twentieth century. Born in 1901 to French parents in Kharkiv, Ukraine, he moved to France in 1915 to study art. He was soon exercising his talents in numerous fields: posters, typography, theatre sets and costumes, painting. He designed two scarves for Hermes: Perspective, in 1951, a geometric composition open to the infinity of the sky. and Litterature, the following year, an alphabet to which only he holds the secret. In 1948, he also designed a deck of cards which bear the distinctive strokes of this virtuoso. In homage to this great artist, and to the theme of 2018, the house has made the deck into a scarf.
