Just as bad feelings make good literature, one can portray a delightful summer scene on a silk square by depicting, alongside the dependable ladybird and beautiful butterfly, those ecological louts the stink-bug, polluter of the airways, the greenfly, scourge of the rose-tree, the red spider, curse of the conifer, the flea-beatle, sworn enemy of the vine, and the weevil, dark harvester of wheat fields.
