Often known in popular culture as a panther, the leopard has always epitomised a regal and imposing presence. This now-threatened species is protected by a hunting ban in most of the countries in which its existence is confirmed. The Swiss artist Arlette Ess, who won third prize in the Grand Prix du Carre Hermes launched worldwide in 2019, has chosen to depict these big cats at rest, enjoying a well-earned siesta.
