Maison Doree (La) La Maison Doree Restauree Par La Banque Nationale de Paris (BNP) Special Issue
Published for the inauguration of the new BNP offices in Paris 1-3 rue Lafitte.
- During the Second Empire, La Maison Doree, a magnificent neo-renaissance building, was home to one of the best restaurants in Paris, visited by the great novelists of the time. One could meet Honore de Balzac or Marcel Proust there. Later, in the 1980s, the place became a temple of art where the impressionists exhibited their works. In 1895, the art dealer Siegfried Bing set up shop under the name "L'Art nouveau". From the end of the 19th century onwards, the place was occupied by a wide variety of businesses until 1974, when the BNP bough the whole block and, after restoring the building, set up the Banquie Nationale de Paris.
