Histoires De Carres > Spring - Summer 2018
When he set about creating this design, one of the house's classics, printed for the first time in 1961, Henri d'Origny was inspired by a collection of sixteenth-century bits and curb chains from France, Italy and Spain. This was the era in which equestrian art underwent a transition from a practice essentially focused on hunting or war to an art of display. Across Europe, academies were established, and riding treatises endeavoured to teach dressage perceived as a harmonious relationship between man and horse. In keeping with this spirit, the designer's composition is sober, calm and balanced. Today, it has been revisited, placed on a gingham background, a classic motif composed of two-toned squares.
