- Oranje Boven is a Dutch national anthem. The anthem emphasises the Dutch connection with the Dutch royal family (Prines of Orange). Yhe orange, white, and blue Dutch tricoloured flag came into being around 1630, during the war with Spain. The battle cry "Oranje Boven" of the Watergeuzen (pirates) refers to the flag and their leader, Prince William of Orange. It has become a symbol of freedom.
