Hermes Histoires de Carres > Autumn - Winter 2019

Pierre Marie's idea for this scarf came from the pages of a French cookery book published in 1873. Le Livre de patisserie was the forth book by Jules Gouffe, the son a Parisian pastry chef famous for his pieces montees, whose shop was located on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore, a stone's throw from the house of Hermes. Soon his talent had earned him the epithet "the apostle of decorative cuisine". For Pierre Marie, these beautiful delicacies, amassed in a kind of culinary daydream, were irresistible. Towers of almond paste, pistachio croquem-bouches, decorative cake stands. coloured sugars, nougatine, dessert creams and choux buns form an extravagant decor that pays tribute to the illustrator's boundless imagination.
