Roger Caillois, the 20th-century man of letters, was fascinated from an early age by "curious stones that attract the gaze owing to some anomaly in their shape". Agates, jaspers or pyrites are all fragments of the universe. In our imagination, they form analogies with the plant and animal world but also with the human world. This calls to mind dream stones (mengshi), slices of rock inside which all kinds of landscapes can be perceived: ravines and lakes, banks and escarpments,. Claudia Stuhlhofer-Mayr offers us a rich composition of minerals whose centers reveal dreamlike embryonic forms. At the heart of the composition Pegasus burns bright, a symbol of poetic inspiration.
