Histoires De Carres > Spring-Summer 2017
Among the many books preserved in the Emile Hermes collection are the albums of Camille et fils, a Parisian saddler based in the 10th arrondissement., A plate dating from 1895 illustrating a selection of girths caught the attention of Virginie Jamin, who was attracted by the restrained beauty of the drawing. The designer, a specialist in geometric compositions, gave free rein to her imagination, deploying the girth motif in a playful zigzag pattern. In an elegant and fascinating dance, the girths mirror each other as they criss-cross or zigzag in a harmonious mix of lines, checks and coloured weaves.
