Once upon a time, the rumble of drumrolls accompanied armies marching bravely into battle as well as the town crier's signal that a riotous animal fair was about to begin in the village square. Here we maintain a soldierly bearing and salute the drums of the Swiss Guards (protectors of Louis XI and other French royals), and of Napoleon's Imperial Guard footsoldiers. Let the parade begin!
