Le Carre Hermes Paris > Automne/Hiver 1990/91

This scarf takes its inspiration from the porticos (torana) of the stupa of Sanchi, a funeral monument in Central India and the focal point of the buddhist religion under the Maurya dynasty towards the beginning of our era. The artist has slipped the figure of a Hindu deity into his composition - Ganesa, the elephant-god, son of Siva and roughly the counterpart of Hermes in Greek mythology. This is what might be called a fine example of oecumenism !
