This shower of maternal milk, set beyond young Hercules' greedy reach, was eulogised by a poet as "sister to the pale bodies of lovers". An innocent time when girls would not toast themselves on beaches, nor under sun-lamps. Today the sun strikes down and science rules; nobody knows when they will surrender their mysteries to the shades below. But our consolation remains in this myriad of stars, which never ceases to light up our summer nights.
